The New Standard for Perth Infill Housing

Perth needs more housing within established areas, but density alone does not create good neighbourhoods.

Successful infill should contribute positively to the street, protect privacy and provide homes with usable outdoor space, natural light and practical storage. Landscaping should be integrated from the start rather than used to conceal poor planning.

The transition between public and private space is especially important. Entries, courtyards, balconies and windows should create activity and character without exposing residents.

Parking and bin storage must also be resolved carefully. These practical elements have a major impact on whether a development feels considered or compromised.

The next generation of infill housing should offer the efficiency of higher density while retaining the comfort, identity and liveability buyers expect from a home.
